Asparagus tasty?

Okay, so for all of my life, I thought asparagus was gross. Although I don't really recall a tramatic time in my childhood when it was forced on me, I just remember it being slimy. Ick. So, I've avoided it no matter the cost. Mom and Jim gave us a small bunch of asparagus and mom told me how I could fix it. So I fixed it for dinner last night to accompany the s'ghetti. I made each of the kids try a spear - of their choosing. Ben and Maddie were ready to club eachother for the smallest; can you feel the love? Sam went for the honker spear. I watched their faces as they tried asparagus, as they've never had it. Nobody threw up on the spot, passed out or choked. So I figured since I made them try it, I better be a sport and give it a whirl. (Plus it one of the foods I can eat according to Weight Watchers and I don't have to measure or weigh it - it is a freedom food!) And I found it was YUMMY-LICIOUS! Sam is even wanting to plant it in his square of the veggie garden this year. I remember grandma Gale saying an asparagus plant would produce for five years. Considering the price of asparagus, I'm thinking that is one good deal! We had left over s'ghetti but not asparagus! "They" say you should learn something new about yourself everday, yesterday I learned I like asparagus. I told Jack when we go out to a nice restaurant (doesn't happen often, but on occassion we splurge) to remind me that I like asparagus!

You crack me up. We love asparagus in our house. You'll have to let me know if you come up with any good recipes. We primarily just steam ours. I like the idea of growing it yourself - it does get pricey!

By the way, we're doing the WW thing also (it's a neighborhood thing). Ry has had huge success! We'll have to trade recipes.
Love ya!
